A Palm Desert woman has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a man’s body in a trash bin in a gated community in La Quinta on Thursday, officials say.
The death is being investigated as a homicide, officials said in a posting on Facebook Friday morning.
Deputies were called to the 43-000 block of East Parkway Esplanade at 11:41 Thursday morning, in the Esplanade La Quinta development off of Jefferson Street and Fred Waring Drive.
There have been reports that the trash bin was located outside a residential senior care facility, but investigators have not confirmed that information.
“I don’t have details about it being a board and care or whether it was licensed or not,” sheriff's department spokeswoman Deputy Robyn Flores said.
Cristina Canimo, 32, was arrested at 3 a.m. Friday on the same street where the body was found. She was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of murder with malice, according to jail records.
Canimo's bail was set at $1 million. She is due in court at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The name the deceased man has not been released, pending notification of family.
The investigation is continuing and no further information was available Friday.
